There’s something about a railroad that captivates children and even adults. I’m drawn to them because they are one of our lasting vintage forms of transportation. There is a western, dusty, greasy, dirt draw about them. That, combined with a handsome little boy in a crisp linen white shirt, makes for some good photographs.
Torsten was quite reserved on our way to his photo session. . . until he saw the trains and track. All of a sudden his face lit up and he turned into a smiling, gleaming-eyed little man. The train conductors let him blow the train horn, gave him a sticker, etc. He couldn’t have had it any better! And so began my chase to photograph him while he wandered around in amazement. I tried to get his attention by telling him that Thomas the Train was hiding in my camera lens. That worked like a charm some of the time. He even told me he could see Thomas, Percy, and Hero (I don’t know all the names!) waving to him through my camera! What imaginations children have! This was a great location, especially for a 4 1/2 year old boy. I love the way these turned out! He’s so cute!
